FAQ

Questions,
answered.

Everything you need to know before choosing your sauna. Still unsure? Call 0401 696 261 or email sales@nordhaus.com.au.

How hot does the 2–3 Person Traditional Sauna get?

It reaches up to 90°C. A 4.5kW Harvia electric heater warms 20kg of sauna stones, which gives the high, dry heat of a traditional Finnish-style sauna. Pour water over the stones to add a burst of steam and lift the humidity.

The heater runs for up to 4 hours at a time and has a 1 to 8 hour preheat timer, so you can set it to be hot when you get home.

What is the difference between a traditional sauna and an infrared sauna?

A traditional sauna heats the air. An electric heater warms sauna stones, the room climbs to as much as 90°C, and you can pour water on the stones for steam.

An infrared sauna heats your body directly with infrared panels, so the air stays cooler. Nordhaus full spectrum infrared saunas run between 30 and 75°C.

Choose traditional if you want high heat, steam and the classic sauna ritual. Choose infrared if you prefer a gentler heat at a lower temperature. Our sauna buying guide compares the two in detail.

What power does the 2–3 Person Traditional Sauna need?

The 4.5kW Harvia heater needs a dedicated 20 amp circuit, installed by a licensed electrician. The sauna is supplied ready for electrical installation, and your electrician completes the final connection, either a wall socket or hardwiring, to suit your home.

The cost of the electrical work depends on your switchboard and how far the cable has to run, so it is worth getting a quote from a local electrician before you order.

Can I pour water on the sauna stones?

Yes. This is a traditional sauna, so pouring water on the hot stones is part of the experience. It comes with 20kg of Harvia sauna stones and a Finnish style bucket and ladle.

No drainage is needed. A drip tray is supplied with the heater, and the removable slatted timber floor sits over your existing floor.

How much space do I need for the 2–3 Person Traditional Sauna?

The sauna measures 120cm wide x 150cm deep x 200cm high and seats two to three adults.

  • Top bench: 112cm wide x 45cm deep
  • Bottom bench: 112cm wide x 45cm deep

Allow around 200mm of extra clearance during assembly so the sauna can be positioned safely, and keep the intake and exhaust vents clear so air can circulate.

Can this sauna be installed outside?

It is designed for indoor use, and it can also go under a patio or veranda or inside a garage where it is fully protected from the weather.

It should not sit out in the open. Water damage to an indoor model used outdoors is not covered by warranty. If you want a sauna for an exposed backyard, see our outdoor traditional saunas, which are built for it.

Can the sauna be built into a wall or cavity?

Yes. Our indoor saunas can be built into a wall or custom cavity for a seamless finish. Allow about 200mm of additional clearance so the sauna can be assembled and positioned, and make sure the cavity is ventilated with all sauna vents left unobstructed.

Do I need special flooring or a drain?

No. The sauna includes removable slatted timber flooring that sits over any existing floor, which makes cleaning easy. No drainage is required, as the heater has its own drip tray.

How hard is the sauna to assemble?

It arrives flat-packed in multiple boxes and is an easy DIY job for two people, taking approximately 45 minutes. The heater must then be connected by a licensed electrician.

Prefer it done for you? Our recommended partner offers professional assembly in selected areas, and you can check assembly pricing and availability online.

What is included with the sauna?
  • 4.5kW Harvia electric heater
  • 20kg of Harvia sauna stones
  • Finnish style bucket and ladle
  • Thermometer and hygrometer
  • Traditional sand timer
  • Removable slatted timber flooring
  • White LED strip lighting
What is the sauna made from?

The cabin is built from Canadian Hemlock, a timber widely used in saunas because it is low in resin and stays stable under sustained heat. The front is 8mm tempered safety glass, lighting is a white LED strip, and ventilation is roof mounted with airflow holes in the glass panel.

What are the benefits of using a traditional sauna?

Regular traditional sauna use is commonly associated with relaxation, stress relief, improved circulation and muscle recovery. Many owners use it as a daily ritual to switch off, and pair it with a cold plunge for contrast therapy at home.

How do I look after the sauna?

Care is simple. Wipe the benches down after use and leave the door open so the cabin can air dry. The removable floor lifts out when you want to clean underneath.

What warranty comes with the 2–3 Person Traditional Sauna?

For home use, the cabin and electrical components are covered for 5 years, the Harvia heater for 2 years, and the heater elements and accessories for 1 year. Commercial use is covered for 1 year. Full details are on our warranty page.
